Behind junior forward Max Mahoney’s 28 points, the Boston University Terriers defeated the Lafayette Leopards, 84-82, at the Kirby Sports Center on Wednesday evening. BU has now won three straight games.
Sophomore guard Javante McCoy knocked down a pair of free throws to give the Terriers (14-16, 7-10 Patriot League) the 84-82 lead with 27 seconds remaining in the contest. He again went to the line in the next possession and missed both attempts, but grabbed his own miss and drew the foul.
McCoy again drew blank, but Lafayette sophomore guard Alex Petrie missed the 3-point attempt to win the game.
The Terriers got off on an early 18-7 lead, but it was the Leopards (10-18, 7-10 PL), who regained the momentum and entered halftime trailing only 40-38.
Lafayette continued to push the pace early in the second half with a 10-2 that gave them a 56-48 lead.
Petrie scored team-high 19 points for the Leopards.
