BU’s playoff hopes cut short, as the Terriers fall to Colgate, 81-69, in the Patriot League Tournament quarterfinals

The Colgate Raiders trailed, 37-28, at halftime but rode a 16-5 run in the final 3:26 to defeat the Boston University Terriers, 81-69, Thursday evening at Cotterell Court. The Raiders scored 53 points in the second half.

Colgate (22-10) now hosts Navy in the semifinal round of the 2019 Patriot League men’s basketball tournament on Sunday afternoon.

BU (15-18) controlled the first half with 56.7 percent shooting, while holding Colgate to just 34.4 percent shooting. Leading the charge was junior forward Max Mahoney, who contributed a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds for the game.

After scoring career-high 30 points in the first-round matchup against Loyola, sophomore guard Javante McCoy scored team-high 20 points.

The second half would be another story, as the Raiders shot 64.3 percent from the field, behind 21 second-half points from junior forward Will Rayman, who went 5-6 from the 3-point line and 7-8 overall. Rayman finished with season-high 26 points for the evening.

Patriot League Player of the Year Rapolas Ivanauskas added 18 points and 8 rebounds for the home team.
